Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty — Weapon Upgrade Guide

While it’s not a Nioh game in name, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty clearly follows the Souls-like approach to the hard action games Team Ninja has taken a liking to as of late. In this way, it follows some of the same established RPG structures you might know from Dark Souls or Nioh. One such system is the way weapon upgrade works in Wo Long

How to Upgrade Your Weapons in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

In order to upgrade your weapons in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty you need two resources. First you need a certain amount of Copper, the game’s currency you get for numerous tasks — but mostly it drops from enemies. In our experience, we were rolling in Copper, even early in the game, so this shouldn’t be an issue. What you need to get your hands on is Steel of the according rank, in order to level up your weapon of choice.

In Souls-like fashion, you need upgrade materials of a corresponding rank to level them up. However, in Wo Long everything is pretty straightforward. Steel is the only upgrade material. And regardless of which rank you are upgrading to, you will only need 3 corresponding pieces of steel to do so.

As examples: Upgrading a weapon to base rank to +1 will require 3 Rank 1 Steel, and upgrading a level from +8 to +9 will require 3 Rank 9 Steel.

You can only upgrade your weapons at the game’s solitary blacksmith, Zhu Xia. During the early missions (in the Parts 1 and 2 of the game), she will appear in missions to aid you at certain points. But once you unlock the Hidden Village hub area, she will move there. After a certain point, she will set up her own shop that can be found down the tree branch path to the right of where you spawn into the Hidden Village when traveling back there.

How to Find Weapon Upgrade Materials

While you can always check to see what a reward is for a given level in Wo Long, many of the best upgrade materials are found by thoroughly searching your environment.

A good rule of thumb is that if, for example, a level says it will reward you with Rank 2 Steel you know there will be an abundance of that upgrade material found there. However, there is also likely to be a small number of Rank 3 Steel drops hiding there as well — either as a reward for taking down a tough enemy or discovering a tricky marking flag.

These tips should help you find the upgrade materials you are looking for. For more tips on Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Wo Long guides.
