Shazam! Fury of the God‘s abysmal box office crash is a symptom of much bigger problems facing the 2023 box office. The movie had one of the DCEU’s worst opening weekends at the box office with just $30.1 million, but paired with one of the DCEU’s highest second-weekend drops, Shazam 2 quickly became one of the year’s biggest flops at the box office. Unfortunately, Shazam! Fury of the Gods‘ box office situation is far to common in 2023. There have been some big hits, but a number of flops and under-performances show just how fragile the post-pandemic box office still is.
