As you upgrade your farm in Stardew Valley, you will have a chance to raise chickens and feed them for produce that you can sell for money. While the Chicken Coop is not available to construct at the beginning, you will be able to expand your farm for animal husbandry after a few seasons. To raise chickens, you will need to maximize your friendship to get quality produce and have an additional source of income.
