How I Met Your Father has officially been canceled, proving that a past How I Met Your Mother spinoff was better off dead in the water. The Hulu series gave it its best shot and made it through two seasons. The fact that it didn’t immediately flop proves that the concept wasn’t too bad—there just wasn’t enough audience interest to keep the ball rolling. This indicates that no matter the plot and concept, the same would have likely been true for another series based on How I Met Your Mother, thus quieting the decade-old question of “what could have been?“
