Genshin Impact Composer Yu-Peng Chen Leaves miHoYo

Yu-Peng Chen, the composer behind HoYoVerse games such as Genshin Impact, announced on his Weibo account that he will leave miHoYo and HOYO-MiX. According to the post, he stated that this was to pursue his own musical dreams and goals. He also revealed that he plans on releasing a new original album some time next year. In the full post on Weibo, Chen also stated that he made great memories working at miHoYo and that seeing the composition students on the HOYO-MiX team reminded him of all the support and help he received as well. These students are the ones who composed the Fontaine pieces in Genshin Impact. Since Chen did not work on any of the tracks for Fontaine, despite acting as a composer on Genshin Impact, there were rumors of his departure in China since August 2023. However, he only confirmed it on September 12, 2023.

Yu-Peng Chen worked as the in-house music producer at HOYO-MiX from 2019 to 2023. Previously, he worked to compose film scores for movies such as The Founding of an Army, which won him and his collaborator a Golden Deer Award for “Best Original Music Score” in 2017.

As of September 12, 2023, Yu-Peng Chen is officially no longer an employee of miHoYo. He plans on releasing an original instrumental album some time in 2024. A Genshin Impact concert featuring his work on the game will start performances from October 2, 2023.
