Counter Strike 2 on console would be a fantastic development for fans of competitive shooters. Considering the options, a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S platform release would make the most sense for Valve’s tactical FPS, especially considering that CS2 is an update to CS:GO, featuring updated visuals and effects, as well as new mechanics, in the Source 2 engine.
While trading a mouse and keyboard in for a controller would make any Counter Strike die-hard gnash their teeth and shake their fists, CS2 could do well on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, competing with the likes of Call of Duty and (hehe) Battlefield.
Will Counter Strike 2 Be on PS5?
So will Counter Strike 2 release on PS5? As of March 22, 2023, the day of the CS2 announcement, there are no plans to release Counter Strike 2 on PlayStation 5 — or any PlayStation platform.
Will CS2 Be on Xbox Series X|S?
Unfortunately, the same can be said for Xbox platforms when it comes to CS2. As of March 22, 2023, there are no plans for Counter Strike 2 on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One.
Officially, Valve has confirmed that Counter Strike 2 will release on PC sometime in summer 2023. That’s it. The company has not shared a firm release date outside of that. Though there could be a PS5 or Xbox Series announcement at some point in the future, the chances are relatively slim based on what we know.
Though CS2 is the first new release in the Counter Strike franchise in 10 years, the highly-influential and popular CS: GO was never released on PS4 or Xbox One consoles, only making an appearance on PS3 and Xbox 360 way back in 2012.
It’s possible that Valve was waiting all along to revamp Counter Strike with CS2 and release it on the newest generation of consoles, but there’s nothing confirmed on that front just yet. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players will either have to jump over to PC or wait for more information in the future. Stay tuned.
