Following the re-release trend, Ajith Kumar’s Mankatha is returning to theaters after 13 years. This has generated huge excitement among the audience. Recently, the trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai shared the update through his social media account.
Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the film originally hit screens in 2011 and received widespread acclaim from audiences and critics. Alongside Ajith Kumar, the movie features a stellar cast including Arjun, Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali, and others in pivotal roles.
Mankatha revolves around a suspended cop and a group of four men who plan a heist to steal betting money worth approximately $59 million. The cop joins them for a share in the loot. However, when it comes to dividing the loot, betrayal disrupts the team. For those interested, the film is currently available to stream on Disney Plus Hotstar in the Telugu language.
Notably, Mankatha not only marks Ajith’s 50th film but also stands as the biggest Tamil grosser in his career. It initiated its theatrical run with 1,000 screens worldwide and achieved remarkable success at the box office. In Tamil Nadu alone, the film gathered around $3.5 million in net collections during its first week. According to the Times of India, Mankatha grossed approximately $11.9 million in worldwide collections.
When is Ajith Kumar’s Mankatha re-releasing?
Anticipation is at its peak among audiences since trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai announced the worldwide re-release of Mankatha on May 1, 2024, coinciding with Ajith’s 53rd birthday. Adding to the excitement, a Twitter user shared France’s re-release schedule along with the movie poster and the date. Interestingly, in France, the film will hit theaters a day earlier than in India, on April 30, 2024.
In addition to the buzz, Ajith is currently gearing up for his upcoming film Vidaa Muyarchi. Furthermore, he has also signed on for a new project titled Good Bad Ugly, helmed by director Adhik Ravichandran. However, the remaining cast for this project is yet to be disclosed.
As anticipation continues to mount for Mankatha’s re-release, fans are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to experience the film once again on the big screen.
