George Lucas made several changes to the original Star Wars trilogy over the years, and while fans would welcome an official release of the theatrical cuts, eight special edition changes are unlikely to ever be reversed. Jon Favreau recently indicated that he doesn’t believe Disney will ever release the theatrical versions of the films, instead sticking with Lucas’ special editions. This is in line with Kathleen Kennedy’s view as well, who previously stated that she has no plans to change Lucas’ intended version of the original trilogy. As disappointing as this may be for some fans, it makes sense from Lucasfilm’s point of view.
